QTMS is now also monitoring the Södra Malmbanan line from an IORE locomotive

QTMS has previously been measuring the tracks on the northern section of the Malmbanan line from a TRAXX locomotive on behalf of the Swedish Transport Administration, as part of the MAJ project. QTMS is now also measuring the southern section of the Malmbanan line (Kiruna–Luleå) from an IORE locomotive.

Measurements from both TRAXX and IORE locomotives provide a broader and more varied basis for analysis. Differences in axle loads, bogie designs and dynamic behaviour make it possible to study how the condition of the track develops under different conditions. The IORE locomotive’s bogie design, with three wheel axles per bogie, enables, for example, symmetrical measurement regardless of the direction of travel, which improves the comparability of the measurement series over time.

The expanded measurement means that more track metres are measured continuously, providing better opportunities to evaluate trends, variations and causal relationships linked to both high and varying traffic loads.

LKAB is participating as a partner by providing an IORE locomotive as a platform for the QTMS equipment, which enables measurement during regular traffic on the Södra Malmbanan line.

"With measurements from both TRAXX and IORE locomotives, we gain a broader and more varied basis for analysis. This improves our ability to analyse how different types of vehicles and loads affect the tracks over time"
