The story of QTMS
From research project to commercial product
QTMS has its roots in a research project that started in 2013 in the Stockholm metro, with funding from the EU and the Tyréns Foundation. The project focused on reducing noise and improving track maintenance through advanced technology and data-driven analysis. After successful testing, QTMS was developed into a commercial product in 2017 when the Stockholm Region Transport Administration chose to implement the system on seven trains in the Stockholm metro.
Continuous development and expansion
After its establishment in the metro, QTMS has been further developed through several projects, including ePilot 2018 and Testbädd Järnväg 2020. The system has also been installed on the Ore Line, where it monitors the tracks between Pitkäjärvi and Narvik under extreme conditions. The continuous development has made QTMS a robust and flexible solution for railway monitoring in both urban and congested environments.
Recognition and future
QTMS is currently used by several major track owners in the railway sector. The Stockholm Region Transport Administration uses the system to monitor the Stockholm metro, while the Swedish Transport Administration applies it to the Malmbanan railway. In the autumn of 2024, QTMS met the stringent requirements of the Swedish Transport Administration's innovation procurement and is now moving on to the next stage. QTMS is part of the Swedish Transport Administration's investment in digitalisation and condition-based maintenance, with the aim of streamlining and improving track performance.
QTMS continues to be developed in collaboration with the industry and is an important part of future railway management. Our journey from research to established solution demonstrates our capacity to meet industry needs with innovative and sustainable approaches.
From its start as a research project to its current role as a leading product in track monitoring, QTMS has continued to drive innovation and create value for the railway sector.
